Can aerosol spray paint damage your eyes without protection?

I am in a small area and am about 5 feet away from an open door way to outside and do have a respirator to keep me from breathing spray paint but do not use goggles because of constant fogging. I do need a good visual of what I am painting so I would much rather not wear any eye protection but not sure if this is safe or how harmful? I have set up a small fan at times to suck the air out of the rooms faster to the outside.. Please post info..
