I bought a laptop in '07 and processor says intel core 2 cpu T5500 @ 1.66ghz 1.67ghz?

Your old computer had a dual core processor and it was faster. You just downgraded to a single core processor with a slower speed. You bought a computer that may not have been used but it had old hardware installed. You should really return it.
