Should you have a carbohydrate meal with whey protein after weightlifting?

I've heard that after weight training, in order to build m and muscle, it is important that when taking whey protein after exercise, you must also have a carbohydrate meal as well. Apparently, if you dont, the protein will be used as energy to refuel, rather than actual protein for muscle recovery and growth. Is this true?
