Can Yahoo verify that the HELPDESK sent me an email requesting I verify my account?

The email was from the HELPDESK/info@webnews.com. There were misspellings in it and it looked strange. I was asked for user name and pword, DOB and country information. Is it true that I will loose my yahoo account if I have not responded to this information request within 7 days?
