Weed: Sharp Pains when Inhaling?

I smoked some pot today for the first time and as most people I did not get high but every time I inhaled deeply into my lungs there was a sharp pain which made me stop doing it for a while, I haven't smoked anything before i.e Cigarettes or anything, but I have done hookah/shisha. Is the sharp pain normal for a first time pot smoker?
